Lurlean Lowe Williams
October 28, 1913 - July 15, 2003

Lurlean Lowe Williams, a resident of Pitt County, passed quickly and quietly from her life on Tuesday evening, July 15, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Evangeline. She was born October 28, 1913 in Cataula, Georgia, in Harris County, twenty miles outside of Columbus, to the late Lonnie and Lula Lowe. She was one of twelve children.

Lurlean's early years were spent in Columbus, Georgia. She later moved with her family to Bethel, North Carolina. Lurlean attended the Pitt County area schools. She met and married Theodore Williams, and they were blessed with six children: Calvin, Eugene, Cecil, Lourae, Evangeline, and Theodore Jr.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Lurlean was a giving person. She loved flowers and enjoyed reading the newspaper. She kept up with news around the world. She always kept us up to date on current events.

Lurlean was a member of Medley Chapel C.M.E. Church, where she sang in the choir and attended as long as her health permitted.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Lula Lowe; her husband, Theodore; a son, Cecil; and five brothers, five sisters, and two cousins whom her parents raised.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons: Calvin (Annie) Williams of Greenville, NC, Eugene (Martha) Williams of Milford, CT, and Theodore Williams Jr of Bethel, NC; two daughters: Senior Mother Lourae (Robert) Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, and Evangeline Williams of the home; one stepdaughter, Ella W. Brady of Manhattan, NY; one sister, Minnie Lowe Chance of Bethel, NC; two brothers-in-law: Jesse (Idella) Williams of Bridgeport, CT, and Frank Williams of Robersonville, NC; one sister-in-law, Mamie W. Freeman of Robersonville, NC; fourteen grandchildren: Franklin, Vivian, Michael, Eric, Anita, Courtney, Sheba, Robin, Rhonda, Sara, Naomi, Adrian, Dollie Marie, and Thelma; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
