Barbara Jean Britt-Hall was born on December 13, 1945 in Pitt County, North Carolina to the late Dan Spruiel and Emma Spruiel. She was educated in Newport News, Virginia, and graduated from Huntington High School. Barbara later attended Armstrong Business School to further her education. She began her career in the Federal Government in June of 1979 with the Department of the Treasury where she worked diligently until her death.
Barbara gave her life to God over 30 years ago at the Free Evangelistic Church. Since then she has been a very dedicated and faithful member. She was always at church when the doors opened and arrived well in advance. She hated to be late for anything, especially for the services of God. Barbara lived and walked by faith. She never made a decision without consulting God. Her life exemplifies one of true holiness and uprightness before God. She was a member of the Armor Bearer's Committee, the Missionaries, the Choir, and the Mother's Board. After becoming a mother at the church, she was known by most as "Mother Hall." Her favorite praise was "GLORY" and you could hear her shout it out during the services. She was a precious jewel and will be greatly missed.
Barbara became involved in holistic healing (natural herbs) a few years ago. She began to take herbs to enhance her life and treat any ailments she had. Gradually she began to educate the family and close friends on how to take care of their bodies naturally. She finally found something that she really loved to do. She became well educated on diseases, their causes and cures. In the latter part of 2000 she became certified as an "Herbalist." She started her business called "BB's Herbs." Many people have benefited greatly from her herbs and orders were continuing to come in up until her death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Emma Spruiel; seven children: Katina Myles, Daveda Hill, Angela and Jonathan Britt, Michael Jr., Sean, and Shurrandah Hall; two sons-in-law, Maurice Myles, Sr. and Charles Hill; three sisters, Vivian Coles, Pamela Snowden, and Annie Bell Parker; one brother, Anthony Jerome Spruiel; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Dubose and Jolinsie Spruiel; four brothers-in-law, Tyrone Coles, Calvin Snowden, Dudley and Wayne Hall; nine grandchildren, Katia, Maurice Jr., and Antonio Myles, Britt Hill, Corine, Janae, Joshua and Jasmine Hall, and Patrique Bush; god children Robert Pitts, Wendell Bames, Chris Campbell, Lamar Harris, and Georgette Fields; close and dear friend, Dorothy Wooley; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Who is this consoler of others, this woman of unwaivering faith and Love?
Who is this peaceful flower, this tranquil and beautiful dove?
Who is this strong warrior, this glimmering gem?
Who is this soldier who has been sent by the Lord?
This woman has been a never dimming beacon of light.
She's showed us that all we need is faith and prayer to fight the good fight
I would not trade this gift from God for anyone or anything.
For she has raised me to know a peace in my life that only God can bring.
I love her more than any words could ever begin to express.
I love her because no matter how far I go, I'll always be welcomed back into her mothering nest.
I have been blessed to have her in my life as my very own.
I have been blessed to have been raised by her in a very loving home.
This is my mother: Barbara-Jean-Spruiel-Britt-Hall.
But this is no matter. For her love will forever remain the same.
To My Ma, I LOVE YOU, Vee 2/97
